Rotations/Curriculum

The Department of Orthopaedics at UMMC prides itself on how well trained our residents are after five years of graduated responsibility. Below are the rotations our orthopaedic residents complete, divided by training year.

Post-Graduate Year - 1
  • Basic Surgical Skills Lab (1 month)
  • Orthopedics (6 months)
  • General Surgery Trauma (1 month)
  • Surgical ICU (1 month)
  • Plastic Surgery (1 month)
  • Anesthesiology (1 month)
  • Musculoskeletal Radiology (1 month)
Post-Graduate Year - 2
  • Night Float rotation 1 (6 weeks)
  • Upper Extremity / Hand (3 Months)
  • Night Float rotation 2 (6 weeks)
  • Trauma (3 months)
  • Total Joint Reconstruction (3 months)
Post-Graduate Year - 3
  • Foot & Ankle / Sports (3 months)
  • Oncology (3 months)
  • Pediatric (3 months)
  • Trauma (3 months)
Post-Graduate Year - 4
  • Private Practice Sports (3 months)
  • Private Practice Spine (3 months)
  • Trauma Chief (3 months)
  • Elective / Research (3 months)
Post-Graduate Year - 5
  • Sports / Foot & Ankle – Admin Chief (3 months)
  • Pediatrics Chief (3 months)
  • Upper Extremity / Hand Chief (3 months)
  • Total Joint Reconstruction Chief (3 months)
